The Italian School of San Diego now offers much more than weekly language lessons. Its 2026 programs include Italian classes for children, teens, and adults, flexible private instruction, AP Italian preparation, professional translation and interpreting, and practical support for people planning to live or work in Italy.

Most in-person programs meet at the school in Kearny Mesa, San Diego, and several classes and services are also available online.

Italian classes for kids and homeschoolers

The school offers Italian classes for children in TK through sixth grade, with separate paths for beginners and heritage speakers. Classes emphasize conversation while building reading, writing, vocabulary, and cultural knowledge.

Families who homeschool can also join the Italian morning program for homeschoolers. The program welcomes children starting at age three and uses play, songs, reading, and projects. Eligible families may be able to use charter-school funds.

Accredited Italian and AP preparation for teens

Accredited Italian classes for middle and high school students can satisfy world-language requirements for high school graduation and college admission in the San Diego Unified and San Dieguito Union High School districts. Both new learners and heritage speakers can follow a multi-year path through advanced Italian.

Students preparing for the College Board exam can explore the school’s AP Italian program in San Diego or request private AP Italian tutoring and exam preparation, available online or in person.

Italian classes for adults

The adult Italian program includes beginner, intermediate, advanced, and conversation classes. Depending on the session, students can choose in-person classes in Kearny Mesa or online lessons via Zoom.

Other options include:

Italian culture, books, and school activities

Language learning continues outside the classroom. The school hosts cultural events and special activities throughout the year, and its Italian books program in San Diego helps local readers find children’s books, textbooks, and other Italian-language titles.
